Resilient flooring is flexible pliant material most commonly sold in tile form. It is important to note that resilient flooring has low slip resistance when wet.Vinyl, VCT, and linoleum are just a few examples of resilient flooring. These floors can often become slippery when wet. Always use wet floor signs in public areas if the floors are wet.

Tile Surfaces

A tile is a artificial piece of hard-wearing material such as ceramic, stone, glass or metal. The two main categories of tiles are glazed and unglazed. A tile becomes glazed by painting or spraying a liquid glass onto the body of the tile and then firing at very high temperatures. The tile is then baked further until the glaze becomes hard fusing the glaze with the tile and creating a glass like coating. Glazed tiles are usually the more popular choice in wall and floor tiles today compared to unglazed tiles. Due to their low absorption rate, glazed tiles are commonly used in bathrooms and for outdoor flooring. These glazes have the ability to give the tile a decorative color or texture and create flooring that is more durable. This Glazing gives the tiles increased protection against scratches, stains and fading due to the sunlight. Tiles with glazed finishes can become very slippery especially when wet. These smooth finished tiles have less traction that creates an increased risk of slips and falls.

Concrete

Concrete floors are a very low-maintenance flooring option. People like them because they are easier to install than wood flooring. Cement is also one of the more affordable flooring options and can easily be covered with another flooring material from hardwood to carpet. As one of the most durable flooring options, concrete is definitely not something anyone wants to fall on. The slick smooth surface is very slippery when wet and especially when the flooring is in a high traffic area the risk of someone slipping on the concrete is very high.

Bathtubs

In the most recent statistics The Center for Disease control and prevention (CDC) estimates over 205,000 fatalities occurred from falling in the US from 1999-2009. Obviously the combination of water and the slick hard surface of the bathtub floors make the bathroom the most at risk place for injuries/deaths from slipping. Please make sure to stay safe and treat your bathtubs to make them less slippery. Please ensure you determine the type of bathtub you have for the correct product. If it has a metal sheel its likely porcelain. If it's flexible is acrylic or fiberglass.

Wood Surfaces

There are many options when it comes to wood flooring. Wood flooring consists of hardwoods and softwoods, available in a variety of colors and finishes. Ash ,Oak and Bamboo wood are just of few of the popular types of wood floors used. While wood floors are one of the most popular flooring options they tend to be very slippery when wet. It is also important to note that many finishes and stains commonly used on wood flooring decrease the surface traction making the floor more slippery.
